Its not Rocket Surgery to give the Staff all the facts and let them plan/work it out to reach the objective. What is peculiar is how easy it is to slip back into Full Control Mode and you even get requests from staff to do the same. This tend to kill off Creativity and necessary feedback.
My fundamental belief is that everyone is happiest when they assess control over their own situation, be it work or leisure, instead of having someone telling them what to do.
Leadership and management of course have to be situation adapted. The SoftSkills and self confidence of participants in projects plays a major part in making it successful while traditional ‘lone wolf’ workers have a greater degree of difficulty in a self governing situation.
