New & Returning TV this Week (June 21-27)

Expect a review of ABC’s new supernatural show the Gates tomorrow. I think I will also review yesterday’e episode of True Blood. I for one don’t mind two vampire shows during the summer, wished they put them on different days though, but I guess there is a reason they are.

Saving Grace Series Finale on Monday should be good. Time to say good bye to Grace and Earl, forever.

Gravity (Starz) one of my favorite newcomers also ends its season on Friday.

Two new series premieres this week, both nonSF, Memphis Beat (TNT) on Tuesday and Rookie Blue (ABC) on Thursday. Both about cops.

Futurama returns on Thursday with season 6 and Hawthorn (TNT) on Tuesday. I hope Futurama doesn’t suck.

Memphis Beat – Series Premiere – That’s All Right, Mama.

Detective Dwight Hendricks (Jason Lee) investigates the abuse of elderly woman who happens to be a legendary Memphis disc jockey known as the “First Lady of the Airwaves.” But his loose investigative style is cramped by his new by-the-book boss, Lt. Tanya Rice (Alfre Woodard), who brings a den mother approach to her job. Meanwhile, Dwight’s mother (Celia Weston) starts dating a charming new neighbor.

Memphis Beat centers on Dwight Hendricks (Jason Lee), a quirky Memphis police detective with an intimate connection to the city, a passion for blues music and a close relationship with his mother. He is “the keeper of Memphis,” a Southern gentleman who is protective of his fellow citizens, reverential of the city’s history and deeply rooted in its blues music scene.

Despite his impeccable instincts as a detective, Dwight’s loose, relaxed style of police work rubs his demanding new boss, Lt. Tanya Rice (Alfre Woodard), the wrong way. But Dwight may eventually win her over to a Memphis state of mind, especially when he takes the stage at his favorite hangout to perform a legendary song or two.

Rookie Blue (ABC) Series Premiere

Fresh Paint – Five young, ambitious cops, fresh out of the Academy, are plunged into the world of big city policing on their very first day on the job, a world where even the smallest mistake can have life-or-death consequences, coupled with some serious emotional fall-out. In the premiere episode, Fresh Paint, triumph turns to humiliation when a high-stakes takedown of a suspect goes awry. Andy McNally has made a critical rookie mistake, ruining a long-running undercover drug sting, and tries to make up for it by going face to face with a volatile gunman who already has one man’s blood on his hands, in the premiere on Thursday.

Monday

Saving Grace Series Finale on Monday should be good. Time to say good bye to Grace and Earl, forever.

Lightman is called to testify in the trial of a beautiful widow accused of murdering her much older husband in the all-new The Whole Truth episode of Lie to Me on Fox.

A string of dog poisonings in the suburbs puts Jack and Dan on the trail of a well-meaning yet oblivious vigilante. The vigilante’s plan to sabotage the meth labs operating throughout his neighborhood has attracted a dangerous amount of attention and a deadly out-of-town visitor in the all-new The Dim Knight episode of The Good Guys.

Persons Unknown isn’t my thing, I’ll let it sit for the time being, maybe I will watch it later.

Tuesday

Memphis Beat (TNT) Series Premiere

I must admit I watch Pretty Little Liars. When it premiered two weeks ago I didn’t think twice about it until I read a blogpost that made it sound interesting so here I am watching. It is kind of a murder mystery with a bit of I know what you did. In this weeks episode old and new relationships are examined as the girls try to pay tribute to Alison’s memory, in To Kill a Mocking Girl.
