My cover of the upcoming Fall season for science fiction and fantasy fans continues.

Fringe is one of my favorite shows all categories. It is something of a modern Archive X with a great following even if one could be happier with the ratings. It will be back this Fall after a game changing season finale this Spring. Peter Bishop connected the two universes with the machine then he ceased to exist so this season starts with Peter gone. Much has Changed is Fox theme for this new season.

I doubt Peter is gone forever especially after his appearance at Comic-Con but we might have to wait and see. But one can speculate a bit about it. Rumors that he would come back as someone else has been denied and he has a contract for this season.  The question is rather when he is coming back.

The new situation can be interesting. We have two Olivia, Two Fringe teams and a lot of interesting technology not to forget the animosity between the two Walters. Will there be joint missions? or will they raise a new iron curtain between the two realms? A popular speculation is that Peter will become an Observer. I am interesting how people’s lives has changed without Peter. Olivia could be a totally different person and Walter never kidnapped Peter from the other universe so why did he go there? Interesting questions …

One thing we can be sure of is that the fringe events have not been stopped by the merger or there wouldn’t be a show.

The first episode will be called A Sort of Homecoming Neither Here Nor There but rumor has it that Peter won’t be in it.

Fringe has a good start on the season and way to go the way this show has of reinventing itself every season. That is a talented group of writers.

Olivia is on the other side where Walternate is trying to convince her she is their Olivia by injecting her with a memory transfer from B-Olivia. They want to use her ability to move between the universes.

Olivia makes a run for it and escapes but the memory transfer slowly takes over turning her into what they believe is B-Olivia. I am not convinced she isn’t playing a role to be given freedom. Outside she teams up with a taxi driver I think I recognize from Total Recall? I have to check IMDB later. The guy connects with Olivia and I think he will be back.

Next episode will be in our universe but the next after that will be on the other side, it is going to be torture to have to wait on resolution two weeks after each episode up until the big revelation already promised in the fall finale.

I had great fun watching this episode but it was also very emotional with her trapped, possibility after possibility closed for her to return and then meeting her mother that in our universe died when she was a little kid.

I wonder how it will go on the boyfriend side. Our Peter here and Frank(?) over there. We will find out about Peter and the other Olivia next week. I heard rumors that they will go a bit steamy on us, but that might not be next week.

The other side has daily flights to the moon! We are doing something wrong here! The totalitarian big brother surveillance is a bit harder than here. You have to swipe your card to travel.

Walternate has a plan. Why is he using Olivia? please speculate in comments.

Season 3 of Fringe
premieres Thursday,

This is the best SciFi show on television at the moment. The cast has a wonderful chemistry. Especially Walter and Astrid. I am so looking forward to this new season.

A little Fringe science is never a bad thing. I am a big fan of this show. At the end of season two the fringe team returned to their original universe. But they don’t know they have the wrong Olivia with them.  Here is what I have been able to find out.

The first half of the new season will be every other episode in the alternative universe starting with the imprisoned Olivia in the premiere named Olivia. Spoiler fairies also told me that it will take until the mid season finale before B-Olivia will be unmasked. I am all psyched about having another Fringe team to get to know now every other episode. The stories will be told from the point of view of respective universe.

One of the drawbacks of this is that Peter will only be in every other episode, at least up to the mid-season finale.

New this season is Amy Madigan in the pivotal role of Olivia’s mother. And in episode 2 a powerful female government agent becomes and adversary to the Fringe team for 3-4 episodes.

I will keep this updated up to the premiere with what we know.

The spoiler faeries tell that Walernate will continue to manipulate Peter. By using B-Olivia who will seduce him …

Speculations

I wonder where the new season is going to take us. First half of the season is undercover B-Olivia and every other episode in another universe. The logical progression should be intensifying and maybe defusing the brewing conflict between the two universes. B-Olivia should learn that there are no sinister plans against her universe. But will Walternate believe her? I would love it if they start to see traces of a third party stirring up trouble between the two universes (if there are two why not many). Maybe that is for later, if ever. I think I read somewhere that the writers would keep it to these two for now. What do you think will be the big problem this season? Beside getting Olivia back.

New this season

• The intro will have a red tone for the Altverse episodes and the ordinary blue tone when the episode takes place in the original fringe universe.
• Olivia’s mother played by Amy Madigan will appear in roughly four episodes beginning with the season premiere when mother and daughter reunite in the alterna-verse. Casting describes her as “lovely and together”. She loves her daughter very much and is even more devoted since she lost her other daughter in childbirth.
• As foreshadowed by the chalkboard anagram in Walternate’s lab in the season finale, Sam Weiss (Kevin Corrigan) will make an appearance or two (or more) in season 3.
• Thomas Jerome Newton (Sebastian Roche) will also return for an appearance or two.
• The two Olivias will be very different. Altivia was not experimented on as a child; she has not been betrayed like Olivia. How will Olivia react when she finds out about B-Olivia’s childhood? (I assume that is what the mother will be doing)
• The two Walters will meet if the writers get to decide.

Episode 3.01 – Olivia

Takes place in the Altervese. From what is looks like, Olivia is going to escape her imprisonment in the season premiere.

Fringe has tapped Wire alum Andre Royo (a.k.a. Bubbles!) to guest star in the show’s third season premiere. Royo will play Henry, a soulful taxi driver that is unexpectedly forced into a tense situation with Olivia (Anna Torv).

Episode 3.02 – The Box

Back in the original Fringe universe

The story alternates to the Fringe Team ‘over here’ where they investigate a mystifying case that people are discovered in a trance-like state that ultimately leads to their death. The unlikely suspect: a mysterious box. As Peter and Walter collaborate to study its properties, alternate Olivia presses on and turns up the heat on an unsuspecting Peter. Meanwhile, key information about the future is revealed when Walter and Nina meet at Massive Dynamic for the reading of the last will and testament of William Bell.

Nikita [New]

I must say that’s one insane chair and it is probably like the action in this remake of Nikita.

Vampire Diaries [Returning]

Picking up on the same night as last season’s finale, Elena  arrives home to a nightmare as she discovers Uncle John’s and Jeremy’s fate. At the hospital, Sheriff Forbes is comforted by Matt , Bonnie  and Damon while she waits to hear if Caroline will survive the car accident. After a confusing conversation with Elena about the night’s events, Damon is the first to realize that Katherine has returned. Katherine’s arrival sends Stefan and Damon on a path to find out what she wants, why she’s back, and how much of a threat she is to the people they love. Meanwhile, still reeling from his father’s death, Tyler is surprised when his charming and mysterious uncle, Mason Lockwood, arrives to console the family.

There will be werevolves …

This is a show I record and watch later when the season is over. But I am not sure I will do that this season. I want to know what happens.

Merlin [Returning]

It has been a year since Lady Morgana disappeared and no trace of her has been found when season 3 begins. She returns under mysterious circumstances and soon the king is having hallucinations; an old enemy attacks and Arthur has to take charge.

Merlin starts to suspect Morgana but she and her evil sister are to fast for him. They capture him and bind him with magic. In desperation he calls the great dragon.

Merlin is a great series and 13 new episodes is better than usual for a BBC production.

Premiere: Saturday, September 11 (BBC One)

Lost Girl [New]

A new sexy supernatural drama about Bo, a Succubus who feeds on the sexual energy of humans. She is the Girl Next doors until she drained her boyfriend to death in their first sexual encounter. Now she has hit the road alone and afraid. Bo’s succubus nature tangles her in a sexy, romantic love-triangle with Dyson, a shape-shifting homicide detective, and Lauren, a human doctor who has found a way through science to help give Bo the sexual self-control she’s been aching for. With the help of her human sidekick, Kenzi, and Dyson, a sexy police detective, Bo takes on a challenge every week helping a Fae or human client who comes to her to solve a mystery, or to right a wrong.

Another supernatural show with nudity and sex is my first thoughts but I can live with that. The concept sounds interesting with a Succubus and the Fae but this in-between kind of detective series have been done before with various degrees of success. Blood Ties where Peter Mohan was Executive Producer comes to mind. It was cheesy but had a certain appeal. The crew and cast make this look like Mutant X the reunion. Cheesy with sex and nudity, count me in but I don’t expect high quality.

The Event [New]

What if there was a cover-up so big that even the President was on a need-to-know basis? And what if some average guy stumbled upon the truth – a secret so powerful it could literally change the course of humanity? You think that guy would stand a chance of survival?

The buzz at Comic Con was very positive and that talk for the Event but on paper it looks like yet another fast paced action adventure with character development be damned. Some sources that saw it at Comic Con have said the pilot was fun to watch but all over the place and we have to wait on episode two to get any answers. Much rides on the characters and how much fun it will be to watch. I will give the Event 3-5 episodes to convince me. I am looking forward to check it out but it’s nothing I jump up and down for.

Chuck [Returning]

Chuck will take up his father’s secret work, whatever that is and to search for his mother who will be played by the iconic Linda Hamilton. He promised Ellie to stop being a spy after he stopped Shaw so he has to keep it a secret from her and probably even from Sarah at first. Morgan is the first one he is going to involve according to sources inside the show.

There are many awesome new and returning guest stars lined up. Dolph Lundgren and Olivia Munn will guest star in the premiere.

Undercovers [New]

What is it with NBC and spy shows? Do they need another, they have Chuck. It looks like fun CSI-level scifi action.

Outwardly, Steven Bloom and his wife, Samantha, are a typical married couple who own and operate a small catering company in Los Angeles – with help from Samantha’s easily frazzled handful of a sister, Lizzy. Secretly, the duo were two of the best spies the CIA had ever known, until they fell in love on the job five years ago and retired.

When fellow spy and good friend Leo Nash goes missing while on the trail of a Russian arms dealer, the Blooms are reinstated by boss and agency liaison, Carlton Shaw  to locate and rescue Nash. Following leads that take them to cities spanning the globe, Steven and Samantha quickly realize that perhaps this supercharged, undercover lifestyle provides exactly the kind of excitement and romance that their marriage has been missing.

$#*! My Dad Says [New]

$#*! MY DAD SAYS (pronounced “Bleep My Dad Says”), based on the popular Twitter feed by Justin Halpern, stars Emmy Award winner William Shatner as Ed Goodson, a forthright and opinionated dad who relishes expressing his unsolicited and often wildly politically incorrect observations to anyone within earshot. Nobody is safe from Ed’s rants, including his sons, Henry, a struggling writer-turned-unpaid blogger; and Vince, the meek half of a husband/wife real estate duo with domineering Bonnie. When Henry finds he can no longer afford to pay rent, Ed reveals a soft spot and invites Henry to move in with him. Henry agrees, knowing that the verbal assault will not abate and now there will be no escape. Describing their father/son relationship is tricky, but Ed will easily come up with a few choice words.

The Big Bang Theory [Returning]

I can’t wait on the return of ‘Beautiful Minds’. They left us a real cliffhanger last episode – Sheldon meets a girl!

TBBT used to light up My Mondays but this season it moved to Thursdays.

In the premiere The Robotic Manipulation – Penny finds herself along for the ride on Sheldon’s first date ever; while Wolowitz finds a new use for a robotic arm.

Supernatural [Returning]

The sixth season of the show will focus on the brothers’ relationship. The season will steer towards the format of the early seasons with “lots of meat-and-potatoes closed-ended episodes, and…a season-long story arc to weave in”. Heaven and Hell are now in “complete disarray”, forcing Sam and Dean to reunite to “beat back the rising tide of creatures and demon-spawn” that “roam across a lawless and chaotic landscape”.

Misha Collins will return as series regular Castiel, as will Jim Beaver as Bobby Singer. Mitch Pileggi will make multiple appearances as Sam and Dean’s grandfather. The recurring role of Christian, the maternal cousin of Sam and Dean, was given to Corin Nemec; he is described as “capable, calm under pressure, and very good at his job”. Kim Rhodes will return as Sheriff Jody Mills, as will Fredric Lehne as Azazel.

Medium [Returning]

Medium is kind of solid entertainment and I like Allison and her normal family with normal family problems. Beside all the supernatural stuff. Medium returns with a ‘Freaky Friday’ premiere this year.

I usually watch this as a filler when I have time.

“Bring Your Daughter to Work Day” – When they have the same dream about a missing homeless man who is the subject of Allison’s most recent case, Bridgette and Allison swap personalities, causing mayhem at home, at school and with the investigation.

Smallville [Returning]

Time for the final season of Smallville, or so they say.

“Season 10 promises the classic reuniting of the timeless romance between Clark and Lois, and brings Clark face-to-face with his destiny as he overcomes his final trials and forges the iconic identity that will be known for all time.”

There will be lots of characters from the previous nine seasons coming back for a session.

Smallville is a show I usually record and watch when the season is over.

No Ordinary Family [New]

This looks like extra cheesy entertainment and I love Michael Chiklis.

The Powells are about to go from ordinary to extraordinary. After 16 years of marriage, Jim and Stephanie’s relationship lacks the spark it once had, and their family life now consists of balancing work and their two children, leaving little time for family bonding. During a family vacation set up by Jim in an attempt to reconnect, their plane crashes into the Amazon River. But this is where the fun starts for the Powells, as they soon discover that something’s not quite right. Each of them now possesses unique and distinct superpowers. But saving and savoring their family life will be equally important, as they try to find purpose for their new powers and embark on a journey to find out what defines and unifies them. The Powells are a totally relatable family who happen to be a little bit amazing.

Stargate Universe [Returning]

Those three are going to be joined by Lt James and at least one Lucian hottie (Elli’s new love interest) for season 2 of SGU.

Destiny isn’t just out there to boldly go where no Ancient has gone before. It  has a destination of cosmic importance, so important that it overshadows the desire for the crew to get home, and that by fulfilling this new mission, it may in fact allow them to get home.

At least the first episodes will be dark for Young and the original crew of destiny. Young goes to a dark place before emerging stronger. The young members of the crew has to step up and take more responsibility.

Dr. Rodney McKay and Richard Woolsey from SGA will make an appearance. Robert Knepper (Heroes, Prison Break) and Julie McNiven (Supernatural, Mad Men) will guest star as members of the Lucian alliance.

Premieres: Tuesday, September 28 (Syfy)

Sanctuary [Returning]

The giant earth shattering spider slash hot indian chick cliffhanger of last season will get its resolution soon.

Looks like the new season will center around the search for a lost city Dr. Helena Magnus father left clues about.

It is conveniently paired with SGU this season.

Premiere: Tuesday, September 28 (Syfy)

Human Target [Returning]

It looks like they listened to me last year, they needed more females.

Picking up from the heart-pounding first season cliffhanger, Season Two of Human Target kicks off with a bang as Chance and Guerrero race to rescue their kidnapped associate, Winston. Vowing to retire from the security business, Chance is lured back to work by billionaire philanthropist Ilsa Pucci (new series regular Indira Varma), who needs his protection after the mysterious murder of her husband. While on assignment, the team encounters Ames(new cast member Janet Montgomery), a beautiful, chameleon-like thief who has a past connection to Winston.

Based on the DC Comics comic book and graphic novel, Human Target is a full-throttle action drama centered on a unique personal security expert hired to shield those in danger from an imminent threat that cannot be solved through normal means of protection.

Premiere: Friday, October 1 (Fox)

The Walking Dead [New]

The Walking Dead is a six-episode series based on the comic book written by Robert Kirkman and published by Image Comics.

The Walking Dead tells the story of life following a zombie apocalypse. It follows a group of survivors, led by police officer Rick Grimes, traveling in search of a safe and secure home. Andrew Lincoln (Love Actually, Teachers, Strike Back) will portray the lead role of Rick Grimes while actor Jon Bernthal (The Pacific, The Ghost Writer) will portray the character Shane, who worked with Rick in the police department before the zombie disaster. Other cast includes Laurie Holden (The Shield), who plays Andrea, one of two sisters who join the survivors of the zombie plague, Steven Yeun as Glenn, an expert scavenger and Sarah Wayne Callies (Prison Break), who plays Rick’s wife Lori.

Also looks promising and I know there are many fans out there waiting for this one.

Premiere: October 31 (AMC)

Outcasts [New]

This is the one new series I am absolutely most excited about. It has been portrayed as something of a western in space and that got my juices flowing plus it is a British/American production which hopefully mean there will be some mighty unexpected stuff happening here.

A group of courageous pioneers face a unique opportunity: the chance to build a new and better future on another planet. Outcasts is an epic new eight-part drama series created by Ben Richards for BBC One/BBCA.

They are led by President Tate and his core team of Stella, Cass and Fleur – they took charge and settled here first alongside Expeditionaries Mitchell and Jack.

They are a diverse group of individuals who left their old lives behind in extraordinary circumstances; promised a second chance at life they created a society, far away from their home, friends, family… and their pasts.

Settled in the town of Forthaven on Carpathia, they are passionate about their jobs, confident of their ideals and optimistic about the future. They work hard to preserve what they’ve built on this planet they now call home, having embraced all the challenges that come with forging a new beginning.

The planet offers the possibility for both corruption and redemption; while they try to avoid the mistakes made on Earth, inevitably our heroes cannot escape the human pitfalls of love, greed, lust, loss, and a longing for those they’ve left behind.

As they continue to work and live together they come to realise this is no ordinary planet… is there a bigger purpose at work? Mystery lurks around them and threatens to risk the fragile peace of Forthaven.

We meet our characters at a moment of incredible anticipation, they’ve lost all contact with Earth but the arrival of the last known transporter signals fresh hopes and dreams. Will Stella’s husband and daughter, who she heartbreakingly left behind, be on board? Why does Tate seem anxious about one particular passenger, Julius Berger? Most nerve-wracking of all, will it land safely and bring a fresh perspective on the new world with it?

Premiere: October/November (BBC, UK), December 5 (BBCA)

After the cliffhanger ending of Over There part 1 I’m thrilled and filled with anticipation for part 2 the season finale of Fringe. Walter had been shot and collapse outside a hospital. William Bell steps out of the shadows outside Alt-Olivia’s window and tell Olivia he has been expecting her (If it wasn’t for the high respect one have for his character and the actor playing him one could come up with other reasons an elderly man hangs outside a lovely young woman’s window) and Walter is in trouble. In addition to that Peter is about to help Walternate build a sinister world-busting-looking bomb that might be missing only the detonator and that missing piece might be Peter himself.

Worldbuilding

Airships are so cool, why don’t we have more of them? The Alterverse seems to have had much trouble with Fringe events; maybe their warlike reaction is not totally unfounded. On the surface it seems like Walter has a lot to atone for. I would not be too surprised if most of the Fringe damage in Alterverse stems from Bell’s and Walternet’s experiments through.

In many respect the tech levels in Alterverse is higher than us, they have fast healing drugs, exploding bullets, flexible touch pads and much more quite spiffy.

The differences between our two world where something to enjoy in this episode, I would like to learn more. Even the comics in the background was changed Red Lantern instead of Green.

Plot

The plot is that Walter and Olivia with the help of William Bell tries to save Peter before he blows up. Walternate and Alt-Olivia tries to stop them and Walternate follows his own agenda which seems to be the destruction of our universe. He almost tricks Peter into charging the power supply for the bomb, but Peter becomes suspicious when he realizes that it is attuned to one individual only – himself.

In the end William Bell powers their return trip to this universe, but Olivia was switched and Alt-Olivia took her place instead. It is not clear whether or not William Bell survived that.

In the end Alt-Olivia contacts Alterverse and asks for instructions via the Typewriter we have seen before. She gets them, but we are not allowed to see them yet.

Characterization

Yes, you do. I have thought of one hundred reasons…
why you should come back. To — to fight the shape-shifters,
to take care of Walter, to -
- to save the world. But in the end…
you have to come back.
Because you belong with me.

Anna Torv really gets to shine this episode; she plays both Agent Dunham and Alt-Olivia. First she confronts herself to learn where Peter is being kept but she is not very cooperative. Is it still a catfight if she fights herself? She also finally confesses her feelings for Peter and they kiss.

They’re our doubles, alternate version of ourselves,
but don’t be deceived, Olivia.
They’re monsters in our skin.
They’ll do anything,
say anything to gain our trust,
but they can’t be trusted.

Alt-Olivia is an interesting character; it feels like she has empathy and was about to realize that they didn’t have to be enemies at times. The first time she sees herself is such a good scene. She gets so psyched when she discover herself rescuing Walter on the security video at the hospital..

Them both talking about their families was also one of the many highlights.

Peter also did well in the character department. Meeting Alt-Olivia was a great scene and she escorts him to a safe house. How is she? Alt-Olivia asks interested in Olivia. She always tries to right some imagined wrong, haunted I guess …; The way Peter describe Olivia makes it clear how much she means to him.

Changing the Laws of Physics might be above my abilities.

Walternate is Alterverse’s Secretary of Defense and he is a cruel man, wonder if having his son taken caused that or if there is something else behind it? The way he treats Olivia in that dark isolation chamber when she plead and beg to be let out is cold. How is the political system in Alterverse? I get a feeling it is much more totalitarian than here? What do you think?

Harvard is on the edge of a Fringe zone of people frozen in a brown field. It’s there Walternet has been trying to find a way to travel the universes. How much of the damage to Alterverse is he responsible for?

Walter finally got to confront Bell about his memory, and the answer didn’t surprise. You asked me.

Peter has not forgiven Walter but he is not angry any more. You did cross universes twice to save my life he tells him.

My View

Over There was an excellent season finale, it explained a lot but it also created new questions. The introduction of the alt team is great. I can imagine all kinds of wonderful uses for this next season; we might even get to see the two teams work together? Is it a Multiverse?

Once again Fringe proves that it is the best SF show around!

The alternative universe we plunge into has the same characters but with different roles. Here they are in some kind of rapid deployment force for dimensional rifts. They operate out of a place quite like Stargate Command or Threshold’s HQ. I must say Olivia looks good in red hair. They work on that universe’s Fringe Division. But they don’t know about the other universe until Olivia and her team crosses over and they find a 20 dollar bill on a corpse that didn’t make it across and Walternet tells them the truth about the other side.

Olivia and Walter travel to the other side with the help of her fellow Jacksonville kids. To somehow return with Peter before he explodes like a bomb. Before they cross the kids get a night on the town where I get a Heroes wibe with their superpowers. Olivia takes farewell of her nice and sister before leaving. Walter Prime continues to convince. He is quite convincing as he lead them to the other side.

They cross over about the same time Peter wakes up on the other side, he doesn’t know he is a bomb that can destroy the universe, and at least he gets to see his mother.

One thing I wonder over is the other side why do they have rationing? They seem so much more technologically advanced than us.

Walternet wants Peter to help him with building a bomb to destroy our universe/planet, that is my guess. What Peter doesn’t know is that he will fuel the bomb and it is finished ready to go.

Olivia’s team set up a meeting with Bell but they are betrayed. Walter and Olivia escapes. Olivia follows alt-Olivia to her apartment and while she stands there Bell shows up, telling her Walter is in trouble.
Interesting times, I can’t wait to this week’s season finale.

How fitting isn’t it to start this new series of post with Olivia in Fringe, one of my favorite shows.

Olivia Dunham is played by the talented Anna Torv

When I first meet Olivia she was about to become engaged to fellow FBI agent John Scott, played by Mark Valley (Boston Legal, Human Target). John is killed after being exposed to a flesh-dissolving agent, but no one is ever completely dead in Fringe. In a desperate attempt to find out where he was affected Olivia link her mind with his dying mind in a strange experiment by Walter Bishop, a scientist fresh out of the loony bin. For a while Olivia mistakes John’s memories as her own.

As a result of that and her general competence she is recruited to a multi-agency task force called the Fringe Division. Where she works together with Peter Bishop, his crazy scientist father Walter and Walter’s assistant Astrid (she is supposed to be Olivia’s assistant) . Homeland Security Special Agent Philips Broyles is the head of the Division.

In the first season she was still deeply affected by her fiancées death but there was a definite chemistry with Peter that develops further in season two.

At the end of season one we learned about another dimension where the two twin towers still stands. Olivia went there to meet William Bell played by Leonard Nimoy, he calls her the Guardian of the Gateway. Season two’s arc is about stopping an invasion from the other dimension so that might have significance.

As a small child Olivia was subject to experiments by Walter and his partner William Bell. We learned about them in season two when a case brought them back there. As a result she can see a shimmer around people from another dimension. She also have other more unspecified psychic powers, once as a child she burned out a whole room with her mind, and she has defused a bomb also with her mind.

Nine years old Olivia shot her abusive stepfather but he survived and disappeared, she has said she knew from she was nine what she wanted to do when she grew up.

Olivia has a niece she cares much about named Ella daugther of Olivia’s sister Rachel. We see more of Ella than her mother even though they stayed at Olivia in season one.

At the moment she is struggling with Peter, she understands he is from the other dimension when she sees him glimmer, Walter asks her not to tell him, but he finds out anyway and takes off by himself. I haven’t seen this weeks episode  but I expect him to be back in her life before this season is over.

I like Olivia she is a resourceful agent that show her human side and I know I am going to enjoy the upcoming finale. Season three is already in the bag.

Monday April 3

Monday is a good day for us genre viewers in sheer quality.

Chuck vs the Role Models (NBC) takes the newlyweds into training with another married pair of Agents, but they hate each other which screws up Chuck and Sarah’s mushy minds. Meanwhile Casey is supposed to train their new agent, Morgan. I am already smiling in anticipation. [Video below]

The Big Bang Spegetti Catalyst (CBS) features Sheldon as the in between. Leonard and Penny aren’t speaking and Sheldon tries to keep them both happy which is sure to amuse, a lot. [video below]

Castle (ABC) has Food to Die for when a high profile chef is found Frozen to death in the Kitchen of a hot NY resturant. Complications ensure as Castle and the restaurant owner, an old high school girlfriend of Beckett, share an attraction. Meanwhile, Beckett’s relationship with Detective Demming continues to grow. This looks like a great episode, the whole dynamic between Beckett and Castle is what makes Castle such a enjoyable show. [Videos below]

Of the non SF series you might want to check out Romantically Challenged (ABC) or Rules of Engagement (CBS). They go to a high school reunion respective look for a surrogate mother.

Tuesday May 4

It’s sad that the genre shows on Tuesdays don’t hold as much for me as the non-genre shows do.

In V the aliens tries to win the Hearts and Minds with the creepy live aboard program, Anna invites Tyler to join. Time for the freezers? The V sends a shuttle load of deadly V trackers after the fifth column and they have to stop it before it can land, unfortunately they might have been missinformed. V is on the bubble for renewal/cancellation and I don’t care about the numbers as much as the networks do but so far V has failed to hook me in, I hope that it will soon. It worries me I couldn’t find any action shots in the promotional photos. [videos below]

Lost shows the Candidate but I am not following that show. All the fans are excited about the series finale that is coming up now in May.

In NCIS (CBS) Anthony DiNozzo finds lady trouble in Obssesion.

Glee (FOX) is about Bad Reputation as a certain list  circulate the school and Sue’s private music video of Olivia Newton-John’s classic ‘Physical’ surfaces.

Peter’s electronic monitor goes off as he chases The Good Wife (CBS) out of the apartment and her kids  are covering for him. Alicia has her job cut out for her, again. This redemption thing works so well and the talented cast is a joy. [videos below]

In Justified Raylan invest the apparent suicide of a financial wizard, Owen Carnes. The widow Caryn knows more than she is letting on, making the case hard on Raylan. [video below]

Wednesday May 5

When his father chops off his hand Deputy Tommy Conroy is reluctantly forced to take over as the new sheriff of Haplin, the Happy Town. He has to investigate the recent murder and the return of the little towns dirty little secret serial killer, the Magic Man. Meanwhile perky Henley is determined to get to the secret third floor of the Boarding house. [video below]

Thursday May 6

After last weeks ‘musical’ episode Fringe is back to normal. Peter helps local law enforcement with a serial killer investigation with ties to Newton. Meanwhile Walter have to deal with maybe having to go back to the loony bin. Someone from the ‘other side’ pay’s a visit using the Northwest Passage? I wonder if we get any Peter – Walter resolution this episode? Do you know? [video below]

Supernatural (CW) is Two Minutes to Midnight when Bobby sells his soul to Crowley to avoid the Apocalypse and the Winchesters tangle with Pestilence who puts a deadly virus on them forcing Castiel to intervene. Dean goes head to head with Death and forms an unholy alliance at a high price for himself, in the hunt for the four rings they need to put the devil back into his underworld cage. Mark Sheppard who plays Crowley is such a glorious bastard, I can see where this is heading. [video below]

FlashForward goes on my save-to-watch pile, in the hope they will be better if I watch them all together. Someone is murdering the people that think they survived their flash forward fates and Mark helps Simon track down his missing sister.

Isobel returns to Mystic Falls in Vampire Diaries (CW). Mother and daughter finally meets, but Isobel refuses to answer most of Elena’s question but reveals she isn’t going to stop at nothing to find the mysterious invention Johnathan Gilbert has been searching for. Isobel’s dangerous actions lead Stefan, Damon and Bonnie to step in and help Elena deal with the situation.

Friday May 7

Friday is still SciFi Friday, but that might change next season. Syfy has allready decided to move it’s SciFi shows to Tuesdays when they return in autumn.

SGU is about Sabotage when one of the twelve FTL drive modules on the Destiny explode due to an overload, the crew calls upon a brilliant scientist from Earth to help find a solution. Nothing about what happened to Eli, Chloe and Scott? They where stranded at the end of last episode I would like to see how that play out. [video below]

Much to Clark’s surprise Martha Kent returns to Smallville with her new boyfriend Perry White. Perry and Lois get into trouble perusing a story about the Red Queen while Clark and Chloe search for the Book of Rao, which they think contains information they need to stop Zod. As the episode is named Hostage I think you can see where this is going.

We are lucky to have Legend of the Seeker on Saturdays, this week Rhal capture Cara and turn her against Richard as the Series Finale approach in Eternity. Richard and Kahlan discover the Stone of Tears is in a magical land from which they cannot leave; a surprise reunion lures Cara and Zedd into a deadly confrontation… I always thought Goodkin’s books where on the kinky side and this looks like another kinky episode. [video below]

The Doctor is recruited by Father Octavian to track the last of the Weeping Angels through the terrifying Maze of the Dead in this weeks on BBCA Doctor Who. As the Time Lord faces the Lonely Assassins, last seen in Blink, River Song is by his side. But can she be trusted?

Returning tv series. Ashes to Ashes season two premieres May 11, but thats not a show I am following. Past Life is expected to return with the remaining episodes after it’s first run was prematurely canceled, expect it to suck.

Legend of the Seeker has its Series Finale Saturday May 22 since it’s been canceled (Read the post). I have really enjoyed the series even if it wasn’t perfect all the time. Richard, Kahlan and Zed, you will be missed.

It’s time for Season Finales now as spring hits nature here on the northern hemisphere. Supernatural, Vampire Diaries, Smallville, Chuck, Castle, V, Ghost Whisperer, Medium, Lost, The Big Bang Theory and FlashForward all spring their’s season finales in May. Most of them are expected to return but I doubt that FlashForward will and some other shows are still on the bubble Chuck and V for example.

Of the finales I am especially looking forward to the Apocalypse on Supernatural.

A few non SF shows I follow is also ending their season NCIS, House, Cougar Town, Bones, Gossip Girl, The Good Wife, Two and a Half Men and The Mentalist. Hmm, wonder if Two and a Half Men will be back, Charlie Sheen might want to get out according to the papers?

Recaps of April: Many of my favorite series returned after hiatus. Fringe came back with the truth about Peter arc, it’s better than ever. SGU picked up the pace and returned with aliens and a whole new positive beat, worth watching. Chuck and Sarah are finally together, and yes they are still spies (so are Morgan and Casey – on a mission together). Chuck has been fantastic this season. Two new shows you should try are Romantically Challenged, a comedy of four friends staring the talented and funny Alyssa Milano and Gravity, a comedy show about suicide and two star crossed and quirky people that meet through a suicide support group. Treme on sundays is also new and worth a non SF watch, great music. Happy Town is not a comedy, I am watching the premiere as I write this. It was okay, I will watch a few more episodes before I write a review. I also watched the first two episodes of Miami Medical but wasn’t impressed. Did I miss anything good?

The God Guy – A New Comedy on FOX

Premieres May 19, looks promising enough for me to give it a try.

From Matt Nix (“Burn Notice”), comes THE GOOD GUYS, a new action comedy about what happens when an old-school cop and a modern-day detective expose the big picture of small crime.

Once upon the 1970s, DAN STARK (Bradley Whitford) and his partner, Frank Savage, were big-shot Dallas detectives. So big, in fact, that they were lauded as American heroes after saving the Governor’s son. Thirty years later, Dan Stark is a washed-up detective who spends most of his time drunk or re-hashing his glory days. A stranger to modern police work who would much rather trust his old-school police instincts, Dan has the reputation as being a bit of a wild card. Able to skate by on the heroic deeds of his yesteryear, he is still a semi-active presence on the force, and with the help of his liquor of choice, occasionally comes through to solve a petty crime.

Dan’s new partner, JACK BAILEY (Colin Hanks), is an ambitious, by-the-book and overall good detective, but is sometimes a bit too snarky for his own good. His habit of undermining himself has earned him a dead-end position in the department, and he is stuck solving annoying petty theft cases that nobody else wants. Worse, he’s been given the thankless task of babysitting Dan, the drunk pariah who can never keep partners for long. Jack may not see it, but he has little chance of getting out of his situation; his knack for making enemies at the station has assured he is not going anywhere.

His only ally is ASSISTANT DISTRICT ATTORNEY LIZ TRAYNOR (Jenny Wade), a quick witted former girlfriend whom Jack hasn’t quite gotten over and the one person he turns to for help with his current professional predicament. Until Jack finds his way out of this situation, he is stuck awaiting the day when he can turn everything around, get back to solving actual cases and return to being a real detective.

On one fairly typical day, as Jack and Dan are pursuing a Code 58, the Dallas police code for routine investigations, which puts them hot on the case of a stolen humidifier, they inadvertently become engaged in a shootout over a stolen golf bag belonging to a notorious drug smuggler. This starts Jack and Dan on a wild chase to retrieve the bag, recover the contents inside and go after the drug smuggler – all while dodging his hired assassin!

The excitement of the case reminds Dan of the way he and Frank busted punks back in the good old days, and he convinces Jack to go along for the ride. Needless to say, many departmental rules are again broken in the reckless pursuit, showing their boss, LIEUTENANT ANA RUIZ (Diana Maria Riva), that Jack and Dan will be spending many more days in the Property Crimes Division, assigned to investigate seemingly minor crimes in order to keep them out of major trouble.

It”s going to be a fantastic month with all these season finales!

What a marvelous emotional episode. Fringe really comes back with a bang.

Walter has always been my favorite character and this episode is further proof of his excellence. Olivia discovered that Peter was from the other dimension before the hiatus and Walter asked her not to tell him.

In this episode we get to follow Walter back to 1985 as he tells Olivia how it came about, starting with him showing the military a digital mobile (they where not invented 1985) and explaining to them that it was from another more technologically advanced dimension. I was a bit surprised they didn’t show more of a reaction at that.

From the beginning in Fringe I saw Walter as rather unfeeling and only caring about his research, but he has gradually become more and more a ‘sensitive’ guy, with quirks of course. In this episode he totally redeem himself, before he donated parts of his brain to others he was a caring father that loved his son very much. So much in fact, that after his Peter died, he tried to save Peter in the other dimension, never intending to bring him over to our world.

So the Bald Men makes mistakes … Interesting to know

Great episode, lots of questions are answered and a big part of the back story is explained in this episode. You should definitely watch it.

Back to already filmed TV. No new or returning SF this week, Just some shows that feel as New as they started.

Monday is Chuck’s (NBC) night as Sarah, Shaw and Chuck reunite to find the Ring operative who killed Shaws wife. But don’t forget that there is also Castle (ABC), I know it’s non SF but Nathan Fillion is reason enough to look forward to. I will also watch Saving Grace’s (TNT) second episode in the final season of the series. I was a bit disappointed in the season premiere last week it felt a bit colorless compared to earlier but I for one hope it will pick up with some angel and crime action this time.

Tuesday is the night most folks watch Lost, I will go for V (ABC). The new version of V is really picking up, tonights episode is A Pound of Flesh. I will dabble in NCIS and The Good Wife outside SF.

Wednesday is Human Target, in my reality Chance’s power of adaption and ability to shake any skill he needs out of his sleeves is SF enough.

Thursday is Fringe day, just the name of this episode is enough Olivia. In The Lab. With The Revolver to want to watch it. I might watch some FlashForward (ABC) but there is a big risk that Bones wins that competition, sorry SF. I still store up Vampire Diaries to watch in one go. The Winchester brothers will have 99 Problems in tonights Supernatural but they get help from a very peculiar town.

Friday is Stargate Universe time, tonight’s episode is called Divided. I might save Ghost Whisperer and Medium to watch later.

Rest of the week is not much unless you live in the UK and can watch Dr Who.

April starts out strong with the returns of Fringe and SGU from hiatus, week two it’s Glee’s time. New show with Alyssa Milano, Romantically Challenged, Secrets of the Mountain pilot and Syfy miniseries Riverworld premiere a little later. We will also say good bye for now to Life Unexpected and Human Target.

Although a gifted mom and lawyer, she’s clueless about dating and hopes to get some help from her equally romantically challenged friends: Perry is Rebecca’s best friend since childhood, but he’s one of Pittsburgh’s most sensitive hopeless romantics. When it comes to matters of the heart, Perry is a romance-aholic. Shawn, a struggling novelist, is Perry’s best friend and rent-free roommate, but he’s never had a relationship more serious than a three-night stand. They awaken separated in a mysterious world where everyone who has ever lived on Earth seems to have been “reborn” along the banks of a seemingly endless river. Determined to locate Jessie, Matt joins forces with a 13th century female samurai warrior Tomoe (Jeananne Goossen) and American novelist Sam “Mark Twain” Clemens (Mark Deklin).

Saving Grace is returning for it’s 4th and sadly last season. Watch it if you can, Holly Hunter is such a strong talented actress that you should watch it only because she is in it and the rest of the cast is not long after.

You should also watch Chuck this week as he tries to win Sarah back (Monday NBC Chuck vs the American Hero), this should be the last episode before the original season finale (6 more episodes where ordered and they will follow a different arc).

I almost bit my nails off waiting on the resolution on the cliffhanger from last week’s Castle. It’s not a genre show, but it is so good.

There is also a new pilot on Friday from CBS – Miami Medical I might watch.

Saving Grace 4.01 Let’s Talk (Season Premiere)

In the final season, Grace is forced to examine the possibility that her life has a divine purpose. All the while, Earl will continue to be a part of Grace’s life as he steers her towards a destiny even he doesn’t understand fully.

After surviving a fall, Grace decides to talk with God. But before she can do that a stranger will tell increase something. Ham and his dad don’t see eye to eye now that Ham is involved with his brother’s widow.

The squad will have to figure out what will happen to the dog in a mauling.

V 1.05 – Welcome to the War (Spring Premiere)

In the last cliffhanger episode, several key plot and character points were revealed: Erica had lost control over Tyler, as she discovered he was now on the Mothership with Anna and Lisa , and she also learned that Ryan was a Visitor; Father Jack was stabbed by the Vs’ security guard from the warehouse, where evidence of experimenting on humans had been discovered; Valerie revealed that she’s pregnant by Ryan (a 1/2 alien and 1/2 human baby); and Chad, while doing a report on the Vs’ healing center during which he had himself medically scanned, was told he has a potentially fatal aneurysm in his brain – will he let the Vs cure him and be indebted to them?

As the story continues, Erica finds her life in danger when she’s attacked at home; a dangerous new member is recruited for the Resistance, as the Visitors shore up their defenses; Anna wonders why Chad hasn’t followed up on his diagnosed aneurysm; and Ryan’s concern grows over Val’s “abnormal” pregnancy

Fringe 2.15 – Peter (Spring Premiere)

Another series that I liked a lot even before hiatus is SGU, now we will get more space and aliens, what more could one wish for?

The Destiny crew discover a piece of Ancient technology that transports Young to an unknown alien vessel.

I love Walter, Peter Astrid and Olivia. I can’t wait on April 1.

Sci-fi fans who may be concerned about the state of the genre on network TV (we’re looking at you, V and FlashForward) have at least one reason to rejoice: EW has learned exclusively that Fox has picked up Fringe for a third season. Though the show isn’t exactly blowing the roof off of Nielsen it’s been averaging just 7.6 million viewers and is ranked No. 50 in the all-important adults 18-49 demographic this season it managed to survive in a tough new time period on Thursdays. The show returns with new episodes and the promise of more visits from Leonard Nimoy and to the parallel universe on April 1.

Anyway, there is many episodes before that happens, last nights Fringe episode was the winter finale. Now we have to wait until April before it is back.

An office building on Manhattan suffer a localized earthquake with many victims, their bodies scrambled in gruesome ways. FBI is called in to investigate. After Walter question the only survivor he realize this is a building from the alternative universe. This scares Olivia as she remembers Bells warnings about colliding universes (only one survives). Walter predict that a similar building from our world will be transported there in less than a day and that the building will be ‘glimmering’ before it does. There is only one problem they can’t see the glimmer to identify the house. Olivia could do it as a kid when Walter was experimenting on her but she can’t now. They have to go to Jacksonville and the abandoned military facility there to repeat the experiment. Olivia have to face her own horrifying past to restore the power she lost.

Olivia really shines in this episode, she has to be brave to face a past she have all reason to fear and she show all the vulnerability you can imagine she feels. There was a little Heroes feeling with the powers, is that bad or good, it’s to early to say, I am willing to follow the script to where it leads.

Peter is in limbo and it is painful to watch, knowing what we know and he don’t. You know it will hurt a lot when he learns the truth. And he have reconnected so sweet with Walter again (last episode when he gave the books he sold back to Walter).

Walter and Astrid is a joy to watch, I heard Astrid will be getting a well deserved story arc after the hiatus. Astrid seems so attached to Walter, that it was a bit surprising when she basically told Walter, this is to much even for me, I refuse.

Without telling to much I can spill that there is movements in the romantic department in this episode, but not necessarily what you expect.

This seasons story arc move a building ahead, but there are quite a lot of unanswered questions left for later. Like how did they move the building? Who was inside the building when it went?

There was some things said that stuck to my mind:
- Nixon on a silver dollar, that is disturbing
- What the hell is wrong with you, you did this with little children

This was a good winter finale, an emotional cliffhanger if you will. One you will look forward to resolve but can wait on until April Fools day when Fringe return for the second half of the season. I wonder if the date was intentional?

Someone who is recognized by a former Holocaust victim is performing macabre experiments that targets race, eye color and other genetic traits and kills the victim.

Olivia, Peter and Walter is called out to investigate the murders. Walter is his usual self, he is the most interesting person in Fringe, He and Astrid. Walter is insinuating Peter and Olivia is going to marry soon. He asks Peter if he thinks She is going to call him father, he would like that. That’s just such a Walter moment.

The poison has some interesting and Fringy properties, it turns the victims blood blue. Walter starts  to recognize the science from his fathers books and we learn that his father was working for the Nazis while being an American double agent. They came to the States 1943, not before the war as Peter believed.

We learn more about Peter and Walters relationship and family history in this episode than ever before. It might not be such a big revelation as last week when we learned that Walter didn’t want Peter to die again, but it is interesting.

The mystic man recognize Walter, he looks like his father he tells the policeman that tells him his name outside the next crime site. They find the tea mug he used to disperse the poison, but analyses show that the DNA found is of a man more than 100 years old (and the perpetrator looks twentyfivish).

They have to use the clues they get to track down the culprit before he can unleash All of Hitlers dreams in one little toxin as Walter so well put it.

It was an interesting episode from a personal learn to know perspective. I miss this seasons big arc, the other dimension, super soldiers etc. There is just one more episode left and the build up from this episode is sleight.

I am so looking forward to the finale anyway. Fringe has been a rock in a very stormy SciFi season, high quality science fiction entertainment is what it is.

This time they have an Outbreak situation on their hands. A Dutch man walks into an office collapse and die,  when he dies he spews out a cloud of blood on the bystanders.

Olivia and Peter arrive shortly to investigate the weird death.

The courier that came up in the same elevator as the diseased tries to leave the building. But he is stopped at the last minute by Walter (picture) as he eject the same kind of blood spew and dies.

The CDC takes control of the building and enforce a lock down with Peter and Olivia trapped inside with the rest of the exposed office employees.

Walter and Astrid have to  fight the clock to  find a way to eradicate the pathogens before time runs out for the people trapped in the building.

Walter and Astrid’s research reveal that the pathogen originated deep down the earth and that it probably was responsible for the death of the dinosaurs.

The virus isn’t airborne, it spread through body fluids.

In a struggle with the next victim Peter slips and get blood from the first victim on him …

As CDC call in the Army to destroy the infected.

Walter tells Astrid he can’t let Peter die again. The truth will be out soon that he is from another universe.

A decent episode not one of the best.

A state trooper picks up a young kid not seeing at first that he is deformed. Well at the station they send up a picture of the kid to the authorities. Suddenly other deformed humans storm in and kills all the cops in the station.

Team fringe goes to Edvina to check it out. There are rumors about disfigured people. Their car is run off the road and someone takes a shot at them. The shooter’s car is found later and a normal corpse is found in the nearby Forrest. Peter has remorse for killing.

The corpse is the boy’s father.  The disfigured may be a result of military experiments, and they would do anything to stay hidden.

Good episode, fringy science.
