I liked Ian Whate’s The Noise Within (link to my review below) and Solaris has announced the sequel The Noise Revealed for release April 26 2011 and released cover and synopsis. This could be one for the list next year.

Wonderful cover art by Dominic Harman

I wonder if there is a name for this series. For now it is The Noise Withing book 2.

Synopsis

A time of flux, a time of change. While mankind is adjusting to its first ever encounter with an alien civilisation – the Byrzaens – black ops specialist Jim Leyton reluctantly allies himself with the mysterious habitat in order to rescue the woman he loves. This brings him into direct conflict with his former employers: the United League of Allied Worlds government.

Scientist and businessman Philip Kaufman is fast discovering there is more to the virtual world than he ever realised. Yet it soon becomes clear that all is not well within the realm of Virtuality. Truth is hidden beneath lies and there are games being played, deadly games with far reaching consequences.

Both men begin to suspect that the much heralded ‘First Contact’ is anything but first contact, and that a sinister con is being perpetrated with the whole of humankind as the victim. Now all they have to do is prove it.

This is the cover for the new Paladin’s Legacy book Kings of The North. Elizabeth uncovered it herself today on her website Paksworld. It is expected to be published in the US by Del Rey March 22 and in the UK by Orbit March 24 next year. I loved Oath of Fealty (Paladin’s Legacy book 1) and I will definitely get this one. I assume this is the US cover though if I remember correctly the last book had the same cover in both UK and the US.

King Kieri’s realm has been destabilised by political wrangling and his court is blind to the dangers – until an assassination attempt on their king. And when this backfires, Kieri’s enemies start planning an invasion using dragonfire, a force unseen for hundreds of years. In King Mikeli’s adjoining kingdom, his crown is threatened by a bandit prince. Alured the Black claims his lineage gives him dominion over all the lands. His ambition is boundless, his methods are ruthless and he will not be swayed from his goal, whether or not it undermines a region already on the brink of war. Dark mages also watch for weakness and hunger for their own lost powers. The Kings of the North must plan wisely, as disaster is a sword’s breadth away.

It is available at Amazon US and UK

A Game of Thrones approved to series March 02, 2010. They also released the first photo (below) from the series that is scheduled to debut next spring (that’s a long time away in my very happy mind). The order is for 10 episodes including the pilot.

HBO’s adaptation of George R.R. Martin’s acclaimed novel series. HBO had already greenlit a pilot, starring Sean Bean and Jennifer Ehle, and hopes to do seven seasons — one for each novel in the series. Producer D.B. Weiss says it won’t be a huge, splashy series with thousands of orcs stampeding across the screen. Instead, it’ll stay true to the books, and most of the battles will take place offstage.

Filming on the pilot for Game of Thrones, adapted from the fantasy novel by George R.R. Martin, has wrapped, according to Visual Effects producer Julia Frey. The three weeks of shooting took place in three different countries and involved a cast of two dozen and more than 100 extras.

Cast members include Lena Headey as Cersei Lannister, a woman of royal blood, Peter Dinklage as Cersei’s brother Tyrion, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as Cersei’s twin, Jaime, Sean Bean as aristocrat Ned Stark, Jennifer Ehle as his wife, Catelyn Stark, and Mark Addy as King Robert.
