The Lost Xuyan Bride by Aliette de Bodard

I came along this nice well written story when i was researching free online sci fi. It is refreshing to read a story in a world where the western culture isn’t the dominating one. I like to read more by Aliette de Bodard. This is kind of a traditional detective story – finding a missing bride. At the backdrop of an intriguing new world you get to know in glimpses.

At first I imagined the protagonist as a female; it was not until the finale I realized he wasn’t.
